It pains me to say this, but as of this moment, Bunker Hubby’s movie-picking privileges (because it’s a privilege, not a right, damn it) have been revoked until further notice. From here on in, he is to check with me before renting any movies.
Does this seem drastic to you? Let me present my case:
Exhibit A: Bunker Hubby was asked to bring home something lighthearted; he brought home Noel. Which was a nice-enough movie, but a happy Christmas movie it was not. Oh sure, it was set at Christmastime, but basically it’s 90 minutes of watching the most depressing people you’ve ever met, and 6 minutes of inspiration. Not enough, in the final balance.
Exhibit B: Bunker Hubby is asked to bring home a “fun action movie”; he brings home Lord of War. Not. Fun. A good movie, but….calling it a “downer” would be an understatement.
Tonight was Exhibit C. Bunker Hubby got a free movie from Redbox; when he called and asked me what kind of movie to bring home, I asked him to pick out a light comedy or action movie.
He brought home Moon.
Privileges revokes. Effective NOW.

Yikes.
I saw a preview for this recently and gave it the “Um….no”.
Good call. It was a great movie, but oh! So sad!
On the other hand, I did love “Lord of War” and “Moon!”
I liked both movies, too – sort of. The whole thing with Eve was hard to watch in Moon, as was his slowly dying. But Lord of War was fun, if a bit of a downer. I mean, Nick Cage’s character essentially destroyed his own life…and the end of it was really hard to watch, with his kid. But the rest of it was fun.
