Good morning

1251217_first_lightMonday morning.

I know a lot of you hate Mondays. I know this because:

A) when I worked outside the house, I hated Mondays too, and

B) I hear you all on Twitter saying how much you hate Mondays.

So yeh, I know that a lot of you hate Mondays. As for me, well, I don’t especially hate Mondays.

Wait. Back that up.

I hate Mondays. But for different reasons than you. Where you hate Mondays because they’re the start of another long week at a job you may not enjoy, I hate them because they’re the start of another long week at home. Another week where I will literally see only my husband and son for five days straight (seven if I don’t go anywhere on the weekend again). That’s it. No neighbors (we live deep enough in the woods that you can’t see any neighbors from our house), no delivery people, not even a mailman (it’s an 800-foot walk to the end of the driveway and the mailbox). Just me alone for 7 hours until Bunker Monkey gets home. And then usually another two hours until Bunker Hubby is home.

That’s a lot of time to spend alone.

I won’t get into all the reasons I’m home by myself so much – suffice to say that when you live in the country and do not have much disposable income at your, well, disposal, you spend a lot of time at home. Alone.

BUT.

We’re not going to dwell (further) on that. Instead, we’re going to talk a little bit about how we’re doing with the resolutions we made at the beginning of the year (no, I don’t know why I’m using a plural. Consider it the Royal We).

The exercise is going well; I missed a couple of weeks due to various illnesses, weather, and the like, but apart from that I’ve been running several times a week. At one point I was running as much as 2 miles in one “session”, but after missing two weeks I’m back down to 1.1 miles. I’d like to run a 5K at the end of April, but that’ll depend on whether I’m able to get my distance up by then.

And I’m not the only one exercising; Bunker Monkey started Tae Kwon Do a few weeks back (today will be his third session), and he really likes it. I’ve blogged already about some of the challenges we’ve had with TKD, but I have high hopes that this week will be better (this morning, he said to me, “Mommy, I’m sorry I misbehaved in Tae Kwon Do.” Awwww!).

What has me REALLY excited, though, is his skiing. He’s been skiing with his aunt and uncle twice, and he’s already progressed to the next level of hills (from the “bunny hill” to the beginner’s hill, with the chair lift and everything!). He saw a bunch of kids doing aerials, and REALLY wanted to try it (umm, maybe we’ll wait until he’s been skiing three or four times before we try that!), so I have high hopes that this is something he’ll enjoy for a long time to come.

Of course, as my sister-in-law pointed out, he HAD to pick the most expensive sport. I told her it’ll be worth it when he gets to the Olympics.

What?
